Karen has worked as a freelance community worker and facilitator, event producer, and as a graphic and web designer using a participant driven approaches since 2002. Previously, Karen worked for seven years as a corporate graphic designer.

Karen’s work has involved facilitating projects that develop Creative Interventions (Community Responses) since 2007 to create solutions to issues affecting communities from those most affected, including supporting sometimes complex pathways to change.

Karen has worked on creative engagement projects that involve ‘community walks,’ including The Walking Neighbourhood and Colourise Festival. The Walking Neighbourhood, previously delivered in Brisbane, Redfern and Kings Cross, Sydney and Melbourne, is a curated tour around the city guided by children and inspired by their ideas regarding neighbours, belonging and community.

Karen’s practice thrives on collaborations with friends and community. She believes that the process adopted to deliver projects is equally as important as the outcomes themselves. Karen is committed to personal and professional skill development through courses, listening and seeking information.

Karen’s ancestors came to this continent from England, Ireland, Germany and Latvia and her parents were both born in Eora Country (Sydney). As an adult Karen has lived in various parts of Turrbal & Jagera Country (Brisbane).
