How we are history

What impact does our family’s past have on our actions and values today, and in the future?

This project explores why my ancestors left their homelands, the culture they brought with them, and how this land shaped who they became, from identifying with their homeland to identifying as Australian. It also looks at the resistance of the Aboriginal people whose land continues to be occupied.

The Rixon, Goodwin, Organ, Morgan, Finnamore, Hanly, Lucy, Ryan, Kerridge and Pink family story

Booklet coming soon.

My mother’s paternal ancestors are the Rixon, Goodwin, Organ, Morgan, Finnamore, Hanly, Lucy, Ryan, Kerridge and Pink families. They came by boat from Ireland and England between 1798 and 1883. Some were convicts, some were bounty immigrants, one was an orphan sent from Ireland, and some were free settlers. The story begins with my grandpop, Ted Pink, and goes back through his parents and grandparents to my five times great grandparents, James Rixon and Amelia Goodwin.

This is booklet 2 of 5, with more to come. First edition distributed in August 2025. It is a living document, and I update it as I check references. This booklet discusses colonial violence against Aboriginal people.
